Honoring True Heroes--WOW!
One day, I started thinking about all the incredible people I know. People who make me go WOW! I call them true heroes and they are worthy of honor. Space dictates how many can be included, but maybe you’ll see yourself in one of the following descriptions of my true heroes:
-- a friend who has continued to show incredible peace and stability through a tough year—from her father-in-law being in a horrible accident, to her beloved grandmother dying, to her husband being stuck in Lebanon when war broke out. She also has 3 children and a full-time job. My hat goes off to you and my knee bows to thank God for you and to ask Him to continue to carry you through this valley year.
--friends who have adopted children, some from other countries such as China or Russia. Also a former boss and his wife who adopted two children and also serve as foster parents. Plus a former coworker and his wife who are foster parents to two troubled teenage children. One of the teens has accepted Christ. Our heavenly Father must smile on His children who adopt and love on kids.
--an MBB evangelist in Turkey who hands out Bibles and talks to everyone about Jesus. His very life is in danger, but he lays it on the line for the cause of Christ.
--a former boss who turned 85 this year—and he’s still working. If you met him, you’d think he was 60—or younger! He has so much energy!
--the friend who is my age and has had open heart surgery. You would not believe the strength she and her husband showed through that time.
—another friend who is younger than me who had brain surgery to remove a tumor.
--the friend who is a ghostwriter for someone famous. She is one of the most peaceful people you’ll ever meet.
--the executive who always takes time to offer a word of encouragement or advice.
--a friend who has experienced one health issue after another with family members, yet she’s kept a beautiful spirit through it all.
--friends who lost jobs. They have realized that God is their Great Provider, and have kept the faith.
--professors, teachers, and bosses who have taught others to think. What a great gift to give to others.
--several friends who are 40ish and have not yet married. I pray earnestly for God to provide mates for them. Their spirits are still upbeat and that shows astonishing character to me. May our Lord send your mates soon.
--the friend who always has a word of encouragement for everyone. God bless you. And thank you for blessing me.
--the friends who travel all over the world and tell the stories of the people who live there—their victories and struggles.
--the friend who goes out witnessing in downtown Atlanta on Friday nights.
--the coworker with the infectious laugh. [If you are going to be infecting people, may it be with laughter!!!]
--the mother whose son committed suicide. She stays focused on the Lord and He provides comfort for her.
--the friend who tirelessly works to help those in need of shelter, furniture, or clothing.
--the friends who always take time to chat with me even when I feel crummy.
--the man who leads worship at church, knows everything about every gadget on the planet, has a day job, stays close to his family even though they’re in another country—and still has time to love me and keep me on track.
I hope you take some time this Christmas season to think about the true heroes in your own life. If you do, please don’t keep it to yourself. Tell others about the amazing people you know! Let’s all get caught spreading good news! And take time to relay to your heroes that they make you say WOW!
Feel free to add a comment and honor someone you consider a true hero.
