French Press STRONG Coffee
My dear husband gave me a really nice Starbucks French press kit for Christmas. I get up on Christmas morning, with the goal of making one of the best cups of coffee I've ever enjoyed.
The history: When Starbucks started serving their Pikes Place coffee as their signature coffee (whoever told them that was a good idea should be shot)--if I go there in the afternoon, I will sometimes ask for a French press coffee, because it's bold, strong, and has wonderful taste.
One day, I got a French press from Ikea and thought I could make this incredible brew at home. In the 6 months or so that I've had that French press, I have never been able to copy what they make at Starbucks. It always came out tasting horrible and weak. I even watched someone on a YouTube video, but still couldn't get it to work out. We thought it was the grind, as in maybe it wasn't coarse enough. I'd pretty much given up on the idea.
Anyway, when I opened this fantastic gift on Christmas Eve, I read the Starbucks instructions. What I thought I read that night on the back of the coffee (ground especially for French presses) was to put 10 Starbucks scoops in the bottom of the press. A Starbucks scoop equals 2 tablespoons. So, the next morning, I endeavor to make the coffee. I followed the instructions exactly. I noticed a measuring guide on the French press--and also noticed that when I put in the 10 scoops, it was a little higher than the guide says, but I was like--I am not messing this pot of coffee up. It's Christmas and I want my good cup of coffee! I am making it exactly as I read it on the package. I used the little 4-minute hour glass that came with the set. I was so happy when the 4 minutes was up and I could tell that the coffee was certainly not weak. I pressed down the press and it wouldn't go past a certain point. Hubby tried to help me with it.
It was then that I re-read the instructions. It said to use 10 tablespoons--not 10 Starbucks scoops! Yes, we had a good laugh. Hubby is still laughing at me. That was probably the strongest coffee I've ever had! But it tasted good after adding lots of cream! I believe I'll get it right tomorrow morning.
Merry STRONG Coffee Christmas!
